2018 Program Descriptions

For 2018, the UMLA is once again proud to continue our relationship with Next Level Lacrosse to provide Uxbridge and surrounding community with the highest level of instruction and programming. The UMLA and Next Level are both proponents of the Athlete Development Model as laid out by the CLA and US Lacrosse.

Below are descriptions of the programs that will be run for 2018:   (Dates are tentative)

Peanuts (2014-15 Birth years)

This program is an introduction to sports and in particular lacrosse. The program will run Monday nights for 45 minutes.  The season begins on April 16th and concludes June 25th.

This program will demonstrate and reinforce the core skills of sport and lacrosse using a lot of play based methodology.

There are no traditional games at this age, but rather the opportunity to have fun during the programming time.

There is no contact or stick checking at this age.

Paperweights (2012-13 Birth years)

This program builds on the core skills of passing, catching and scooping. Sessions are Monday starting April 16th running for 10 weeks and a second session, outdoors, on Wednesdays starting May 23rd.

Sessions will be split between skills sessions and informal games. These games will be 3 versus 3 cross floor similar to the initiation level of hockey.

Tykes (2010-11 Birth years) & Novice (2008-09 Birth years)

This program builds on the core skills of passing, catching and scooping. Sessions are Monday starting April 16th running for 10 weeks and a second session, outdoors on Wednesdays starting May 23rd.

Sessions will be split between skills sessions, informal games transitioning into formal games. Initially, these games will be 3 versus 3 cross floor similar to the initiation level of hockey. As the level of skill is sufficient we will go extended floor 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 with volunteer goalies for the latter part of the program.

Games will be stick check only, no body contact or cross checking.

The outdoor sessions will begin to introduce the field game to the children. As the skills progress we will look to modify the structure of the games.

Pee Wee (2006-07 Birth year)

Due to low numbers we will be releasing players to their next closest centre to participate.
